Petworth Cottage MuseumThe First Twenty YearsIn 2016 we were able to stage an exhibition to celebrate twenty years of the museum. Extracted from the Petworth Society's scrapbooks of cuttings, the pictures and transcripts collected here occupied three sides of the exhibition hall. Five years on we cannot stage another physical exhibition but we can show these cuttings here. Unless otherwise stated the cuttings are all from the Midhurst & Petworth Observer. The town's Art and Antique Dealers Association gave a donation towards the cost of the work which was carried out in association with Rod Wilson's Red Lion Antiques business in New Street. Mr. Wilson has presented the now-pristine piece of furniture to Peter Jerrome, chairman of the museum's trustees, so that it can take its place in the High Street cottage which reveals the lifestyle of a Petworth House employee in the early years of this century. A new venture by the trustees is to set up a Friends organisation to support the museum. They are currently seeking a volunteer to establish and administer the association, whose members would pay a modest annual subscription to support the charity. Further details are available from Mr. Jerrome, telephone 01798 342562.
