Petworth Cottage Museum

The First Twenty Years

In 2016 we were able to stage an exhibition to celebrate twenty years of the museum. Extracted from the Petworth Society's scrapbooks of cuttings, the pictures and transcripts collected here occupied three sides of the exhibition hall. Five years on we cannot stage another physical exhibition but we can show these cuttings here. Unless otherwise stated the cuttings are all from the Midhurst & Petworth Observer. 10 Re-opening (in what's on column) - 5th April 2001

A Leconfield Estate cottage in PETWORTH, which reveals the lifestyle of a Petworth House employee in the early 1900s, has re-opened for the summer. The Cottage Museum at 346 High Street was the home of Maria Cummings, a seamstress working at the “big house”. The furniture, fittings and decor of the property show how it would have been in 1910. Run by a trust chaired by Peter Jerrome, and staffed by volunteer stewards, the museum is open every day except Monday and Tuesday from 2-4.30 p.m.
