Petworth Cottage Museum

The First Twenty Years

In 2016 we were able to stage an exhibition to celebrate twenty years of the museum. Extracted from the Petworth Society's scrapbooks of cuttings, the pictures and transcripts collected here occupied three sides of the exhibition hall. Five years on we cannot stage another physical exhibition but we can show these cuttings here. Unless otherwise stated the cuttings are all from the Midhurst & Petworth Observer. 16 High Street Reveals Secrets 19th May 2005

Hidden parts of Petworth's High Street are opening to the world, giving people who just see building frontages a chance to peep at what lies beyond. At an event in aid of Petworth Cottage Museum, which is located in the street, gardens will be open for visitors to explore, and there will also be craft and produce stalls, and teas with home-made cakes. It is all happening on Saturday next week, May 28, kicking off with a plant sale, from 9.30 a.m., in the barn adjoining the museum. The main programme, in and around High Street is from 2-5 p.m. Tickets to tour a fascinating part of the historic town, where gardens range from cottage to formal, cost £3 per adult, and will be available from 2 p.m. in Golden Square and High Street. There is no charge for children. In addition, staff at Petworth Library, which is accessed from High Street, will be putting on their own special event. The Cottage Museum will also be open, for the normal admission charge.
